GRUFFLES

CLOSED SPECIES BY PONACHO

Gruffles are social creatures, they are known for their good sensors and abilities to find/retrieve lost or rare items
they got their name given to them by humans, some gruffles would bond to a human and would find rare mushrooms/gems/plants for their humans
some humans trained their gruffles to search for specific things like truffles, because they were easier to train and were better at hunting the truffles down than pigs,

also their strong bear-like front paws/arms were amazing at digging, because of this they adapted the name Gruffles

Gruffles in the wild live in small groups called clans, a clan usually consists mostly of Betas and foragers with some miners and maybe 1 or 2 guards
clans will usually keep a "hoard" of all of the clans findings and rare items, also a stash for magical essence stones (more about this later)
gruffles not only are good at finding things, theyre pretty greedy little critters and will protect their hoard with their life XD

Beta Gruffles are very common with basic sensors and searching abilities, they usually stay together in the clan and do basic tasks like care for young/mix herbs to make medicines, stack and organise clan findings (the clan hoard)
Foragers are common and are the gruffles that go out and find any food/herbs or miscellaneous things for the clan
Miners are uncommon, these gruffles specify in finding and digging up rare rocks and minerals and magical essence stones (more about this later)
and finally Guards are the truffers that guard and protect the clan and their hoard, also know as the alphas, a clan will only usually have 1 or 2 guards. Guards are either born a guard or if the clans' guard dies a strong beta may evolve into a guard to take over the previous guards duties.


Basic Anatomy:

Strong bear-like forearms, great for digging, have 4 clawed toes and a clawed thumb/dew claw, also have soft padded paws.
Big tough leathery noses, truffers have an amazing sense of smell
Feelers: a gruffles feelers work a lot like that of ants feelers, they help them to smell and sense things around them, since gruffles don't have the best eyesight they use these, their sense of smell and their big paws to feel around the place. They dont have the best eyesight because it enhances their other senses (which are more important when it comes to finding things)
Rounded ears, miners ears can actually close so they dont get dirt in their ears when digging
Strong jaws and a set of nubby tusks, they are omnivores
Back paws have 4 claws toes, soft padded feet.
Back arches/slopes down, their chest and forearms have the largest concentration of muscle.

Beta Gruffles:

- Usually stay/hang around the clan
- usually stack/organise/take care of the clans hoard, mix medicines, care for the young etc.
- dont have as strong as sensors/searching abilities as the other kinds of gruffles
- they have shorter feelers than other gruffles because of this
- can be just as fluffy and have same traits as foragers except they have smaller feelers/tusks and play a different role in the clan

Forager Gruffles:

- Specialise in foraging
- collect food/herbs/miscellaneous items for their clan
- small tusks (but larger than betas)
- Fluff/Hair is more common on foragers
- Long/fluffy/tufted tails more common, tho they can have a range of other tails they are just more uncommon
- can have brighter more random body colours/patterns


Miner Gruffles:

- Specialise in digging up stones, minerals, ores and magical essence stones
- Medium sized tusks
- usually less-no fur
- usually small/smooth tails, tho they can have a range of other tails they are just more uncommon
- grow skin stones on their bodies (NOT ACTUAL STONES/MINERALS), these usually imitate real stones/rocks even though they are bits of hardened skin
- usually more natural/saturated body colours tho can also be bright
- rarely a miner gruffle will have luminescent back stones or nose to help them see underground, tho this is a gift blessed upon certain gruffles and is rare


Guard Gruffles:

- Guard and protect the clan and its hoard
- longer more pointed tusks
- plated on upper body for extra protection against predators
- usually have smooth/more pointed tails, tho they can have a range of other tails they are just more uncommon
- rarely a guard will have a horn/horns, this is a rare trait blessed on certain gruffles
